Now that the MICS and CICS are going away -- and I wouldn't bet on the BCM line being sold much longer either -- what are people finding to meet customers' needs?

Any by the way, I am open to discussion to why Mitel and Shoretel are better.....but that's just my own personal opinion.

I never said ShoreTel was better. I prefer Nortel but I prefer ShoreTel over most everything left.

NCSS, NCDS, for CS1000 and BCM

I am working on Digium now, but I really prefer Nortel BCM.

Our company has been at a lost since the Nortel bankrupcy. We have switched over to Avaya but really miss the simple all in one box design of the BCM. With the IP Office you have too many auxillary factors to the design. Mainly the additional PC's you must configure for voicemail and the call center. To the cumbersome RJ45 inserts. To answer a previous installers question the IPO version 7. Allows you to use M&T series and 1100 and 1200 VOIP series (But not the 1210!) . Please dont think you can switch the box from the IT closet and the end user wont notice the change. There are numerous buttons that no longer work and the functionality issues are vast.

My 2 cents ...
I've installed, maintained, and supported Norstar since the late 1980's and BCM since it rolled out in 1999. These systems were my bread and butter, so it was very sad to see Nortel die that painful death.
However, after attending training on the IP Office, I was very impressed. I really didn't want to like it, but I couldn't help myself after seeing how easy it was to configure and maintain. The ease of VoIP networking and updates really sold me.
The challenge at this point is the learning curve ... i.e., how do I make the IP Office do things the BCM does.
I actually like the fact that some products must reside on a separate server, because this server can allow remote IP access to all system components.
IP Office 7.0 supports a Norstar profile, except in North America! But I suspect in the future we will be able to start it up as a Norstar, BCM, or IP Office. Maybe they'll even redesign some of the modules to provide 50 pin connectors.
Best Feature ... no moving parts, which means no HDD failures!

Long live Nortel prodcuts, that's what I have to say. I started selling Nitsuko which then evolved to NEC, then Nortel, the fact I've learned it by working with other techs and on my own for the BCM it says much about how easy it was to programme. Nortel understood phone programming.

We've had couple clients move to Shortel and have seen the easy of install and prgramming, something we've been contemplating. With a smaller distribution easier access to tech support, faster resolve. Cisco is proving great but the learning curve is huge and can be costly.

I do agreee that the hand set on the Shortel or Mitel needs some work.

so Support Dude or Teltron Man, Do you get the 8 standard Nortel SIP ring choices when the 11xx and 12xx sets are connected to the IPO7? What about the M/T sets, do they still only get the 4 Norstar ring tones by dialing Feature *6? Or have these all been replaced by Avaya/AT&T Merlin Warble rings?

In other words, tell me everything and anything about how the ring tones are configured on the Nortel sets on IPO7 please?

On the SIP sets, I assume you get the Call Waiting Buzz tone as well, correct?

What about CLID? Has this improved on the 11xx and 12xx sets on IP office? Do you get name and number at the same time when the phone rings? One of the Annoying things about BCM was the lack of the 8 ringtones, lack of call buzz and the standard 1 line CLID display where you had to press Feature 811 to get the name.

When you press F*6 from a T or M series phone you can still select 1-4, and these are the Nortel ring, not the annoying Avaya warble tones. I agree with SD the IP Office is heading in the right direction. Yes, still a few things to improve, but overall a solid product.
