I am thinking of installing the newest service pack for netware (5) on our netware server 5.1.
We are running database applications, DBA Manufacturing and Business Visions.
Have any of you experianced any problems with the new service pack?
Are there any precautions/steps I should/will have to make?
I mainly fear compatibilty problems and instability with this new patch.
Any suggestions/expericances would be welcome. ~Apex1x

I would strongly suggest using the backup files option so that if you do have difficulties you can uninstall the SP. This does require extra diskspace on SYS so ensure that you have plenty before you start. -----------------------------------------------------

I had problems after installing SP5 with Toolbox.NLM
If you have multiple servers make sure you upgrade all of them in within the shortest possible time.
If you don`t do that you are getting major sync problems in your NDS.

Besides the above i ain`t got other problems yet......

Greetings from the netherlands

I disagree with the NDS sync problems if you don't do all of the servers as I work for a company that has a 360 server NDS. As you can guess, to upgrade all of these in the shortest period of time is a hell of game.

As long as you upgrade one of your servers that contains a copy of [Root] first so that when DS is upgraded the schema changes get applied and distributed, you should not have a problem.

It is best to upgrade one or two first, wait a bit, then continue with the rest because if you experience problems with your servers after the SP upgrade, it's better to regress one than many! -----------------------------------------------------

I've had the same experience as TheLad. We have 180+ servers across a state-wide WAN. Some remote sites are often a couple of revs behind. We also have some 4.11 boxes still in the mix. We don't have much in the way of sync problems. Just make sure your replica ring masters maintain the latest version.

Another caveat: Don't use the server drivers supplied by Novell. We have been bitten a couple of times by this. Often the Novell supplied drivers are behind those supplied by the manufacturer. In our case, the Compaq drivers from Novell actually prevent the server from communicating. Use the latest from your server manufacturer and update them at the same time you apply the service pack.

You can get the latest NSSD from the Compaq/HP website depending on what type of Compaq server you have. -----------------------------------------------------
