Novell Intranetware 4.11

I currently user a Watchguard Firebox 1000, Watchguard VPN vn6 software to access the internal network.

However, the network is based around Novell 4.11, running IPX/SPX and TCP/IP. My problem is that if a user dials in using the above software, I cannot get the user/software to authenicate to the Novell server so that they can see their network drives.

Can it be done? If so, where am I going wrong?

After successful VPN connection can you ping your Novell boxes??? What is the error messages you get when trying to connect to the server?? What does your IP config look like after you establish VPN??

The FB product does not support IPX/SPX. If your Novell box is running IPX exclusively, you will need to investigate some alternatives.

I have checked out your queries :-
1) Yes I can ping the Novell server from the client running the VPN.
2) I have installed the Novell client on the PC using the VPN, Novell client launches OK. However when I try to put a valid Novell user name and password in, I get back 'The tree or server cannot be found. Choose a different tree or server'. The login screen remains there unitl I close it.
3) Can you elborate on what you mean by the last question?

Since I don't have much experience with Novell, I will have to rely on my experience with MS. It sounds like it might be a timeout issue. I have seen similar issues with Windows when accessing domain resources over a VPN. Do you know if the remote machine has the same problems when present locally?

Hi,

I mean if your client is using a win32 box and you type "ipconfig" at a command prompt, are the IPs bound to the interface what you expect them to be.

I don't know how Client32 (or whatever) authenticates w/the server, sounds like it might be timing out looking on the *local* subnet. I trust there are no personal firewalls (zone alarm, etc) blocking any ports needed to authenticate on the clients?

Have you made a connection and open your host watch utility and your log/s to have a better look at exactly what is happening real-time?

I have also solved similar issues by editing the LMHOSTS file.
