Can a Novell network have an affect on its client running multiple software at the same time? I work in a Novell 4.11 network environment and find that at the beginning of each month, when all clients are pounding the network, that my laptop's performance decreases in a big way. The performance of the PC does improve after the beginning of the month. Could the network be having an influence on my PC? If so, what I can do to improve my PC's performance?

I really do not what to go out and buy more RAM because my support person says that more RAM will not help. My PC is a Pentium III 750MHz with 125MG RAM. :)I

It really depends on what is happening on the network at the time. Depending on what Operating System you have, 256mb of RAM may be a better bet, but this may not be the issue. What is your laptop doing (ie. what Applications do you have open and are you using any Network resources)? It could be LAN related?? -----------------------------------------------------

My Operating System is Windows 4.00.950 B. I am running BarClock, Excel, Internet Explorer, Explorer, a 3270 Emulation program called Extra! and Access. Am I really that weak with RAM? I can run all the above programs at anytime but, not at the beginning of the month. On the first week of a new month the above programs would cause my PC to crash - ie. blue screen of death. So is it the LAN/Novell network causing my problem? :)I

I would certainly suggest that you ask the question of your Support Team as the only common factor would appear to be the beginning of the month. -----------------------------------------------------

Since your problem only occurs at the beginning of the month - is FIND FAST funning on your machine? If so, I bet that somebody set the Indexing interval to a number of hours that is about a month. I've found NO requirement ever for FindFast, Delete the Index in it, and remove it from the Startup folder. Try that and see if your problem disappears. Findfast only serves to make your computer appear busy and slow at regular intervals.
