We are having a huge dilemma and I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice. We are running a NetWare 6.5 server when our users are logging in they authenticating to a differant Novell Server that Zenworks is housed in. This is how the user logs in when they are outside the office: (1) Workstation Only enter username and password (2)Go the the Verizon Access Manager and connect (3) By default we force our users to log in through the Cisco VPN. Ok now is when the error comes, they right-click on the red N in the Sys tray and try to log in the server it gives the Tree or Server Cannot be found. We have one person successfully using a VPN via desktop. Sometimes it will allow you in and most of the time it won't. Most of the time it won't. Not consistent enough. Also, sometimes the Cisco VPN disconnects the user. We have static IPs but do not want to pass out 43 just for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Will post in Cisco forum too. Thanks

Ok, I've got a very similar set up with one major difference. I'm using OpenVPN instead of Cisco. I can log in to my network like I was at the office but a lot slower (of course).

Make sure your clients get the proper info from your DHCP server. DNS servers, routing and maybe the SLP DA address if possible, for browsing the tree and contexts.

Remember SLP broadcasts or multicasts a lot (depending on how it's config'd) which may not cross the VPN link. The only way I could log in over the VPN is if I set a name of a server, which holds a replica of the tree, in the Tree box. Then I could browse for my context or input it manually.

I don't log in like that too often. I use an M$ Terminal Server for work over the VPN.

I can verify this (minus the Cisco link) if you like.

Have Fun!

Thanks for your help IRudeBwoy, will post back tomorrow when I can get to work and give this a go.

Usually in a situation like this, since slp isn't going to likely go over your vpn/routers or be broadcast with dhcp over the vpn, you need to manually configure your SLP DA's IP address on the client. Then you should have no problems assuming that the VPN is not blocking NCP (Port 524).

Marv, we manually created them on the Novell client side for both the zenworks server and NetWare 6.5 server before we install anything else on the tablet. Thanks

This has me stumbled. We take the SLPs off the client, it works, add them back it doesn't. What gives?
