Hi folks,

I have to restore a Arcserve6 backup coming from a old Novell 4.11 Server. Both HDD's from the server are dead my last hope are the tape backups!

Installed a Novell 5.1 Server with SP8 and tried to install Arcserve 7. The installation routine ran successfully but when I do a 'ASTART' the Arcserve 7 pre flight check fails at the PFC.NLM
E21006 Load time error
E21026 Cannot locate section [Modules570] in arcserve PFC.ini
...

I am a newbie to Novell and therefore I have no idea where the errors come from. Can anybody help me with the installation of Arcserve 7, please!!!

Installed Arcserve from CD with no extra patches. Maybe I have to install some patches to get Arcserve running!???

Thx, greets Timo

Let me get this straight: Old server running NW4.11 and Arcserve 6 but new server is running Netware 5.1 and Arcserve 7 and using tape backup?? Single tape drive or changer???

Please post your ASCONFIG.INI from the server as well as the TAPESVR.CFG file. Tell me what host adapter (SCSI controller) the tape drive is attached to.

YES - I would run the patches associated with your version if you can still download them. Look very carefully at any cumulative updates AND/OR read each patch to see that it applies to your operating system.

Pay attention to Novell updates pertaining to backup TSA Check this minimum patch list.

Hi,

thanks for helping me!

You're right! I installed a new Novell 5.1 Server with SP8 and the Arcserve 7 Software without any patches!Unable to download the patches:-(

I use a HP DAT single drive connected on a Adpatec 29160LP-SCSI Host Adapter.Attached you find the mentioned files.

Gosh, it's been so long since I battled with Arcserve and Netware, but let me try to help you.

Looks like you're missing some stuff in the tapesvr.cfg. I'll show you what one of my (OLD) single tape drive tapesvr.cfg files looked like. Note there is no mention of the BOARD (Scsi controller) in your file.

[CONFIG]
BLOCKSIZE=7
WSHOTS=25
RSHOTS=25

[NLM]
NLM1=STANDARD SECTION-NLM1

[NLM1]
GROUP = ARCSERVE
BUFFER=30
SCSILIST1 = 1 BOARD-BOARD0
SCSILIST2 = 3 BOARD-BOARD0

[NWPA]
BOARD0 = SLOT-4 PORT-0 NAME-BOARD0 VENDOR-Adaptec_SCSI_Adapter

Is the controller driver loading in the startup.ncf??? It would be the ADPT160M in this case and yours as well. You can try to do a "load adpt160M.HAM" without the quotes at the console and then SEE which slot it asks you about loading. In case there are two slots, write them both down. If only one, let it load AND add a line like I have shown you in your STARTUP.NCF and TAPESVR.CFG with YOUR slot number.

starup.ncf
rem LOAD ACPIDRV.PSM
SET RESERVED BUFFERS BELOW 16 MEG = 300
######## End PSM Drivers ########
LOAD IDECD.CDM
LOAD SCSIHD.CDM
######## End CDM Drivers ########
LOAD IDEATA.HAM SLOT=10010
LOAD ADPT160M.HAM SLOT=5
LOAD IPSRAID.HAM SLOT=2
######## End HAM Drivers ########
