This really seems basic, but I can't seem to find anything about it. When I'm using notepad for some JS or even HTML, sometimes when I save it, it just runs all the words together and takes out all the formatting (just linebreaks and indentions). It doesn;t happen all the time and it's happened on more than one computer.

Sometimes it will cause the JS or HTML not to work correctly and I have to go back in and seperate everything again to make it all readable then it works.

word wrap is on.

Anyone else have this problem or a way to fix it?

Thanks!

Are you sure it isn't caused by having WordWrap turned on when you create the file so that you think you have linebreaks where you don't really?

You will thank yourself if you take the time to download TextPad or UltraEdit or something like that.

Thanks, that may be it. I'm looking at others as you suggested, I'm just so used to that damn thing.)

Thanks, I'd love to hear some more suggestions for a good editor.

GulfImages, I'm going to 2nd Sheco's suggestion for Textpad, I've used notepad pretty much since I got my job, and just switched to textpad about a month ago. It's really nice because you can download plugins to highlight text accordnig to the extension of the file you're editing. Additionally you can create your own text formatting if you were so inclined. Another neat thing is that you can customize all your shortcut keys, so if you're used to using a certain key combination for searching or saving a document (or just about anything else) then you can customize that shortcut key to do that function. I was a diehard notepad user till I downloaded textpad.

I use Textpad a lot, too, and really like it, too. I also use an old copy of Arachnophilia for some things.

I've been using EditPlus for years with no problems. It does syntax highlighting, statement autocompletion and a lot of other things. Has builtin browswer support too, so you can test your page simply by hitting Ctrl-B.
