Hi,

We have no domain, amny sites with local workgroups and a main workstation. On these main workstations we use the Windows XP backup utility to run a daily backup of the user shares to an external hard drive. Too often users manage to unplug the hard drive, and checking each main workstation eac day is time consuming and ineffeciant. Does anyone know of a way to have some sort of e-mail notification from either the backup utility or the event viewer to let us know when back-ups run or fail? I'm thinking this won't be easy without a 3rd party app, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks.

Jason

Thanks for the quick reply. The problem, as always, is the company not wanting to spend money for something we have for free right now, minus notification of course. I was hoping someone knew of a magical way to make XP/backup send out an e-mail on its own. But I'll definitely check this out.
Thanks again.

Jason

You might be able to do something with the Schedule Tasks log (SchedgU.txt). Sending that information (by script or e-mail or carrier pigeon) to one location via an extra scheduled task.
