How many users are logged on to your computer. Do you have computer administrator priveleges.

i'm the only user, and yes i do have administrator privelegdes.

Sithl0rd, how can i have nothing installed when i have prof. office 2000, corel 9.0 suite, and much more software available and working just fine... and you say i have nothing installed?

i can connect to the internet without any problems, but when i go into my phone/modem icon it says i don't have a modem...

Is this an update install of XP or ??? Maybe the programs you mentioned were installed prior to XP installation and don't show up for that reason. Try going to Windows Update and installing one of the Hot Fixes or Updates for XP and then see if it shows up in your Add/Remove Programs list.

Happened in win2000 once had to reinstall 2k on top of it. Somehow your registry settings got tweaked.

I can't say for XP, but this is the fix for the problem in Win9x machines:

This can occur if a install program creasted a name longer than 63 characters.
Go to Start>Run, type regedit, hit Enter. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Click on the subfolders and look for a string value greater than 63, and delete the key
Before you delete the key, check the folder off the Startbutton for an uninstall icon for the specific program. If one doesn't exist, you can right-click on the UninstallString, choose modify and copy the path information to the clipboard. Now right-click on the Desktop and choose new>Shortcut and paste the info in this box. Name it Uninstall (*the name of the program*) Now you have a way to uninstall the program again.
