Notes 6.5.x - notes.ini file

Hello,

Back in the 5.x days you could delete most of the notes.ini file from the time zone line down to basically "re-install" notes. The ini file in 6.x looks different and this trick hasn't worked when I tried it. Is there a short cut to re-installing notes in version 6.x?

My real issue is that we created a standard bookmark.nsf file to force all of our users to have the same welcome page. It works on 85% of them but a handful are getting 'Invalid URL Syntax' errors for the window that has our companys intranet web address.

Rather than uninstalling and deleting the Lotus directory (doesn't work to either just reinstall or uninstall. You have to delete the directory) and then re-installing there has to be a better explaination.

If you check the ini file for a setting labeled setup=######, Where generally speaking that number is equal to the clinet version of the user.

Change that number to 0 (zero) so that "setup=0".

This will force Notes to go through the setup process again when next launched.

This forced Notes to ask if I wanted to setup Instant messaging and if I needed to enter some proxy settings but did not ask for things like server name, user.id. And I still get the weird URL error.

Is there anything else I should change to force it to re-install?

Without looking at your info directly it sounds like those users with the URL problems, probably have a different Notes directory path than most of your users.

If they have the same directory path or if you are using FQDN for your website URL, then next option would be checking IP routes.

There are af ew other changes you can make in the ini file to force the user.id and server name, however that doesn't really seem to be the root cause.

If you did want to go that path, then also delete or set to "" the mailfile, mailserver, and keyfilename entries.

I attached a copy of my notes.ini... Is the $CurrentLayout the line that sets up the welcome page? If I don't find something soon I'll probably just try the reinstall. Just trying to save some time.
