A while ago there was a discussion about the essential items to have in msconfig: systray, explorer, etc. I am wondering which additional items are essential for a notebook. Thanks for any help.

Nothing else.
You just need systray and explorer.
The drawback is for program that needs to start automatically like virus protection.
My advice for you is to do a process of elimination.
Usually you get a description of the item in msconfig.

Actually, there are a few things you might want to consider. First of all, unlike desktops, you almost always want to be sure to leave the "LoadPowerProfile" option enabled. If it's listed twice, leave both enabled. Also, you'll want to leave "scanreg" enabled since this makes backups of your registry.

Of course, most laptops have many integrated components on the motherboard that need to be started with Windows (such as Video for instance). Check with your notebook manufacturer on that one.

Hope this helps...
