Hello,

My HD in IBM T23 (Win XP pro) crashed last week. Unfortunately I have some files on drive which were not backed up. HD started making clicking noises, then it crashed. I tried to clone drive with Ghost 2003 with no success (always got error). Then I decide to put drive as slave on desktop computer - no luck could not access the damaged drive. After some researching I came across program SpinRite 6 and started recovery procedure after 27 hours program has finished work. Now when I connect disk to desktop comp. I can only see drive letter but no files. I also cloned disk with Ghost. Program created 19 GB files, but I can not see them (files) with ghostexplorer. Only test.gho -- NTFS / HPFS

Thank you for your help and kind regards.

You can, if you are brave, download a copy of KNOPPIX, a Linux Live-CD and start your computer up with it. It will automatically create a desktop icon that is your hard disk. If you click on it, it will automatically mount the partition in a read-only mode and open a Konqueror (similar to Windows Explorer) window showing you the files on that disk.

If you have a USB disk, you can usually copy the files from the hard disk onto the USB disk with very little trouble.

By default KNOPPIX automatically mounts all drives as read-only, so you have to right-click on the USB drive and choose "Actions" then "Change Read/Write Mode" to make that drive readable.

With luck, and a little patience, you can probably recover most of your essential files. If there are actual hardware problems with the disk (it sounds like there are) then some files may be unrecoverable, but you will know which ones you could and could not get.

Good luck!

Thank you for your answers. I have tried with File Scavenger, but I only got files with no data in them.

I have found solution . I got back 98% of all my files :)

First i ran SpinRite 6 and program repaired disk (No more clicks and Windows can see the disk now). This program is a must for every one who have trouble with Hdisks.

Because windows and BartPE could only see disk but no files on it. I ran R-Studio fortunately almost all files were recovered.

Kind regards.

Glad that you were able to access and save your files(or 98% of them).
However, a HD that starts making noises is not long for this world.
