This is really strange to me, maybe someone can help me. I set up windows 2000 adv server. I'm running IIS with just one website. But the website will not serve up images outside of the local intranet. But it will send html text ?? The strange part is that it will work fine inside my firewall (pictures and all) ... Can someone shed some light on this ??

Thanks,
Erik

Just a couple of things to try...

When you say "it doesn't work" what happens? Do you simply get a broken image icon appear in the browser?

Look at the log files - what does IIS report when you try to browse an image?

The example you gave...

Create a file called test_image.htm in the same folder. What happens when you try to browse to ?

Have you tried this from more than one type of broswer?

What are the permissions on the iamges? Sometimes we get images that won't load and they do not have "Everyone" "read" permissions.

Yes it looks like you have set the permissions on the images folder so people can not access them.

I just checked that, everyone does have read, read & execute ??? Could it be a firewall issue ??

and what are the answers to my other five questions?

Sorry here are the answers:

1)No I don't get a broken image the page just keeps running. The image will not download. It connects but doesn't bring the image down.

2) The logs do not say anything about any errors

3) I did create a htm page first. If the page has no images on it then it will run fine, but add a image and it will just run and run (never brings down the image)

4) Yes I ran it on Netscape and IE ... the same on both

I am beginning to think it is a firewall problem.

Webshare a folder with pictures. Then backtrack from there to get the most security you can while serving images.

Thanks for all the help, it turns out it was the firewall. I just moved it to a different firewall and it works just fine. Strange that it would allow pcanywhere to connect but not send any images ... Ahh anyway it works now :)

Thanks again for all the help
Erik

I am having the same problem and I have tried all the solutions mentioned in previous posts and nothing has worked. I am trying to setup the webserver on a DSL line behind a linksys firewall. I am using easydns to resolve my name to ip and keep up with my current ip and I have forwarded port 80 on my router and put my computer in the DMZ which I wanted to avoid and still nothing has worked.
I am using windows 2000 server and I have all the patches and service packs.
Any suggestions?

I couldn't get it to work with my Linksys router. I had a Dlink wireless router that I used for something else and just switched them. That was how I fixed it. I tried everything I could think of and it didn't work. You could try and call linksys and ask them.

Sorry I was more help,

Erik
