I have a fax that is going through a 186 ATA device.
The ATA is configured properly but a fax does not always come in the first time from outside sources it usually takes 2 to 3 times before it will transmit, however it will send without any problems.
The fax speed has been adjusted on their router but this did not solve the problem.
any suggestions?

Our tech support doesn't support faxes behind ATA's. We have some customers where it works great and others where it barely works at all. Too much depends on the Fax machine type and speed. We recommend FXS ports.

We have a problem with 'advanced' faxmachines like G3. We as a company desicided not to support G3 faxes, only 'simple' machines.

ATA's do not work well with G3 fax devices.
Use FXS modules or gateways like a VG224 or VG248

we use vg248. vg 200 r end of sale.

new POE ata's that do support FAXING coming out in lat 07.

check with your isdn provider how the fax number is set up on your circuit. We have just had a similar problem with most attempts to fax in failing. The reason - the fax number was set on a single channel of the 30 availible and this channel was of course getting used by other in / out calls. We got the isdn provider to datafill the fax number over all 30 channels, same as the rest of the ddi's (or dids!!) Now it works again.
