i recently installed a 320 gig wd harddrive as data storage on my comp and it all worked well until i restarted my comp and it gave me this error to format the disk. since i didnt have any info in it i did. But it reads the hd as a 127 gig. This isnt good. I went to disk managment and it says that its a 127 gig. i used partition magic and i gave me the same problem =( anyone can help me plz

edit* also btw im runnig windows xp pro

I am assuming this is an IDE drive.

It sounds like a 48-bit LBA issue.

See:

Two things are necessary to use the full drive capacity:

1) BIOS support - does your BIOS report the full 320GB capacity? If not, you may find a BIOS flash on the board manuufacturer's site to enable large drive capacities.

2) Windows XP must be at least at the Service Pack 1 (SP1) level

Thanks very much forgot to install service pack and when i did all worked well thanks
