When the receptionist transfers a call to an extension, it used to ring 4-5 times and then go to voicemail if not answered. Now it rings back to the receptionist after the 4-5 rings.

What could have changed in the configuration to cause this?

Do you have any Voicemail features operating?
Were all the channels in use?

If no VM features are woking (ie F985) reboot the VM.

There are 2 settings, Transfer Call Back timer based on rings in system programming and Call Forward no Answer under set programming in cababilities.
Transfer Call Back should be programmed to a higher amount of rings then the Call Forward no Answer.

Transfer Call Back is used when no vmail is present or when a business or certian individuals wish the receptionist to take a message or handle the call if no answer at the set.

I just checked the transfer call back and set it for 12 to see what happens. I also tried the f985 to reboot but that only told me what my set number was. I will test to see what happens.

Even on 12 rings it will not go to VM. But the receptionist can f986 directly, with no problem.

check the settings under
terminalsets> capabilities > fwd on no answer
and number of rings

fwd on no ans = the set you saw with feature 985
number of rings = 4

If your Forward No Answer is at 4 rings going to the DN listed in F985 on the sets- then the only thing to try is to reboot the VM system (By Pulling the power plug).

Some of the older Startalks & some of the flashes needed to be unplugged for 10 minutes (no less) to allow the capacitors to drain.

After the VM is down for 10 minutes. then pull the power on the Norstar & let them both come up together.

Think of the VM as the way a printer is to a PC.

If this happens more than once in a Blue Moon you will want to list your Norstar type & software level, & VM type & software level in case there is a conflict.
