Not Getting System Page "Attention" Beep On Some Extensions. 3

The setup in question uses a 5 slot carrier with, going from left to right, a Partner 012 expansion module, a Partner Messaging R6.0 and a Partner ACS R6.0 in the center slot. The install is in a church.

I am expanding the system by installing Partner 18D telephones in various classrooms to be used as a kind of paging/intercom system. The paging/intercom telephone sets do not have access to the outside telephone lines. All they can do is ring other extensions or do a system page. The phones in the offices and kitchen are 34D's.

The breakdown of the extensions is as follows:
10-office phone.
11-office phone.
12-office phone.
13-office phone.
14-kitchen phone.
15-office phone.
16 & 17 door phones.
18-29, page & intercom only phones.

I have all active sets in page group 1 so all system page buttons are programmed as "*71".

The setup seems to work quite well except for the fact that the telephones connected to ports 26-29 do not generate the "Attention" beep when the system page button on any telephone has been pressed. There are no audio problems of any kind on any of the extensions, including the ones that fail to "beep". I can also initiate a system page from those 4 sets without any problems and the telephones connected to ports 10-15 & 18-25 do beep when I press the system page button on extensions 26-29. Changing telephones around and/or connecting right to the 012 module does not resolve the issue

I browsed through the R6.0 installation manual to see if I could find anything that talks about a limit to the number of extensions that can be added to a paging group, but I can't seem to find one.

The idea of splitting up the extensions into multiple paging groups was considered, but rejected when the fact that most of the people who would be using the paging/intercom stations not being technically inclined was taken into account. Teaching people to push 1 button was hard enough. Making them push a 2nd button and forcing them repeat their message to accommodate a 2nd page group would be like pulling teeth without novocane! The moniker "K.I.S.S." really applies here and installing a dedicated paging system would be overkill.

After typing out all the info above, I now can get to my questions![wink] Is there a limit to the number of stations that can be assigned to a single page group or am I dealing with a suspect 012 module?[ponder]

Well, I added another 012 module to the system this evening and reprogrammed the system to get the voicemail up & running again.

I connected an 18D to the 1st port on the new module, pressed the left "Intercom" button and then "*71" and heard the splash tone.

I then moved the 18D to the 9th port on the card, pressed the same sequence and I had the same problem as described at the top of this thread...no splash tone, just my voice. [curse]

I guess it may be safe to say that the last 4 ports on the 012 module have a very minor limitation. It's not a Problem, but it is a problem.

None of the office staff have complained, or noticed any differences in how the phones operate, so I backed up the programming and everything is AOK! [thumbsup2]

Very cool. I had not heard of the limitation on the splash tone on 012 cards. Have to file it away for future reference.

And, just so you know, there is a limitation on how many 34-D's can be connected to an 012 as well.

Hi TTT!

I didn't know about the limit. Do you have that number readily available? As of now, all the 34Ds are on the main processor, but who knows what things will look like tomorrow? [wink]

Between the phone system and running the church's Mackie 24x8x2 console, I have my fill of electronics/technology! [spineyes]

Dexman - I'll have to look up the number of 34's and get back to you.

I mix on a 32-8-2, and still don't have enough channels.

Have you ever heard of churchsoundcheck.com ? Great resource.

Hi TTT!

I haven't seen that site, but I'm going to pay it a visit today or tomorrow and see what it looks like [thumbsup2]

Thanks for the tip/link! [bigsmile]

Hi TTT!

Excellent website Thank you for the link! [bigsmile]. All those articles are going to take a while to read through.[spineyes]

2 more questions before I put this thread to bed. Maybe last year, I started a thread about how the day/date & time on an 18D were switching positions on the display (The time was being shown on the top line and the date was showing on the bottom). Under this project, I've used up all the spare 18Ds that go back to my initial telephone equipment purchase and 3 of the units eventually invert the displayed information.

Usually unplugging and then plugging the telephone sets back in resolves the issue for a while, but at some point the information inverts again. No matter which port I use the problem stays with the telephones.

The serial numbers are very close so the units seem to have been made around the same time.

Is this a common problem with older 1st generation 18D Euro phones? I believe the serial numbers start with an A33.

Lastly, I know this is a Partner board, but do you think that, if the rumors are true, Avaya may be premature in ending production of the Merlin Magix, given all the talk about software issues with IP Office? [ponder]

From what I understand...if you're thinking about an IP phone system, Intertel is the way to go.

Nope, not looking for an IP phone system just yet.
