Ok take a wack at this one. Im work as a tech, and ive came across a duzie.

First he has an Epox 8k7a ddr board. running 768meg ram, with a 1800 xp chip. 100gig wd hard drive.

Every time i goto open a program in the the cd rom i get an error saying
" not enough memory please shut down one or more programs and try again." there are no programs running and it seems to a memory config error. by the way he is running windows ME. I know the max ME will run is 512 and 384 is the sweet spot, but i tried that and still know luck. i ve formated and f disked and now im just pissed off at it.

Any suggestions would be helpful thanks. And yes i already flashed the BIOS.

Did you try monitoring what is starting with Windows?
- use msconfig from the RUN dialog box and go to the startup tab

Also, try lowering that "sweet spot" to 256 MB of RAM. Depending on who you talk to, 320 MB of RAM is the true max that Windows can take before experiencing any problems. Besides, anything more than 256 MB is a waste unless you're running Win2K or WinXP...suggest upgrading OS!

* Are you still having these problems with just the base load of Windows ME (without installing any software)?

I apperciate the help guys, but just upgraded the darn thing to windows xp

lizzard394,
good choice, but did you ever try any of the suggestions (just asking out of curiosity)- particularly lowering the amount of RAM or trying just a base load of ME w/out software ?

well i finally found out that his cd rom was going out but i guess i just didnt want to admit it as a possiality

thanks for youre help guys.
