While I was working on my database, I would occasionally get the error "Not enough free memory to display screen" (or something like that), and I would lose anything I hadn't saved. It happened when I had been working on it for long periods of time, and I figured it was just my computer, but now that it is finished, it happened again on another computer when someone was entering data for a long period of time. Does anyone know why I am getting this error, or how to stop it?

I am using Access 2000 on a Win98 computer. The database has 6 tables, 7 queries and 10 forms.

I was wondering if I should be unloading the forms rather than closing them. I used the command button wizard to make the exit buttons on each form which creates Docmd.Close, I'm familiar with VB, but just learning how to use it with Access. The Main Menu form is always open behind the called forms. Thanks in advance for any help.

Catrina

You might want to post an exact error, "or something like that" isn't exact...=] Does it say "Disk or Network Error", "Out of Disk Space", etc. I'm not sure if I'll be able to help you with this problem, but for someone else to be able too you might want to give them that message...it's very hard to troubleshoot "maybe's". =] Good luck on your search!
xtreme1
rbio@excite.com

Thanks anyway, but I searched for "Not enough free memory" on the MS web site and found out I need to download a fix. I guess "Not enough free memory" was enough information after all.

Catrina

If the fix does not work there are a couple of other considerations.

One, if this application was converted from Access 97 then it may be retaining vba code in memory. This happened to me and I had to create a fresh Access 2000 mdb and import everything from the old.

Another possiblity is if you used other than "standard color" when generating forms with the wizard. There is a bug when using the other colors.

There was a post recently where somebody ran into this problem.

Jerry

The database was created using Access 2000. The colors were the problem, but the download is suppose to fix it, haven't downloaded it yet as the site said it would take a long time and suggested doing it overnight. I will post here if it corrects the problem.

Catrina

Another problem which can create this error, is if you use the predefined styles that come with Access 2000.
Try and remove these styles. This is documented on msdn.microsoft.com
