Not enough free disk space for temporary catalog

We've had to recover a server for a client and we have no idea how it was configured before or what problems there were. Couldn't restore the system state from the tapes so we have to go for a reinstall and then try to restore the data.

We've reinstalled the server as follows:
Compaq ML350
Compaq DDs4 20/40G DAT
Windows 2000 Small Business Server
Back up exec 10 SP1

Trying to catalog the backup tapes which have 18gb of data on the process gets to 15.9GB and then fails with the error message:

"Not enough free disk space for temporary catalog files.
V-79-57344-34009. There was an error processing the on tape catalogs"

Veritas have a technote with the title V-79-57344-34 and I've checked everything as per that and still have the same problem. There is 3gb free on the drive and I've also tried it with the catalog files folder moved to another drive with 30GB free and I get the same error.

Currently, the mail folders on the tape seem to be 0kb in size and there is another file missing altogether. I'm assuming that this is a cataloging issue.

Any clues? I'm desperate for this.

Ta!!

Perhaps moving the catalogs to another drive doesn't change the fact that Backup Exec uses some temp location on your c: partition to cache the current catalog job in progress? I'm only guessing, but if it is the case, perhaps 3gb is simply not enough.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

if you running 9.1 there is a hotfix for that. Install SP2 but I would also take the route of moving the catalog to another local drive with more space

Thanks guys but....

The technote V-79-57344-34009 states that it is the "catalog" folder which is used for this purpose and it specifically tells you to try moving it to solve the problem.
I am running version 10 with service pack 1 installed as already stated in the description.

....anyone got any more ideas?

Have you monitored the job while its starting and later running, to see if the size of the catalog folder fluctuates after the job starts? And you're sure you have permissions to the folder? As a test, might make sure the everyone group has full rights to the folder.

Use Veritas Drivers instead of Micrsoft or drivers supplied by vendor.
