Hi:
I am able to login to my unix server (Ultra 450) but only using the root password and using telnet; I do have a console attached but I do not know the password and the last IT guy here left and is not reachable... Any idea how can I access the console box? or how to change that password
or at least to know what users had been created
Thanks so much in advbance

Sorry but I do not have the solaris CD Rom (The server was moved from another location 4 years ago and then our company was bought from someone else, Is there another way to do this?

You don't have to boot to the same version of Solaris in order to mount the root file system and zero out root's password. You should be fine booting to Solaris 8 or 9 using 'ok boot cdrom -s'.

If you can get in as root via telnet, you can get in using the same password via the console.

You can then look at the users that exist in /etc/passwd and you can reset their passwords with the
# passwd <user>
command.

Steve:
The root password I have is for the server and not for the Console (there are 2 different systems the server is an e450 and the console is a SparcStation5

Update:
I was able to telnet to the server and started the dtlogin service; Now I can use the console to connect to the server but I can not login to the console itsleft (of course I do not have the root password) anyways I guess my best choice will be to boot the console using 'ok boot cdrom -s'.

Update:
I was able to telnet to the server and started the dtlogin service; Now I can use the console to connect to the server but I can not login to the console itself (of course I do not have the root password) anyways I guess my best choice will be to boot the console using 'ok boot cdrom -s'.
