Not able to install oracle 9i in windows xp prof

Hello Guys,

I am not able to instal Oracle 9i in windows xp prof. the set up from disk starts perfectly but once it reached 31% its just stucks and come our of teh set up.

can any one guide me and let me know what can be the problem and how to solve it.

Hi, ambadi9999

1. Oracle 9i install includes 2 types of installer. One is for 32bits and the other one is for 64bits. 64bits installer require 64bit CPU and 64bit OS.
2. Oracle 9i is better to install in Win 2000 Profession, Win 2000 Server or Win 2003 Server, etc.
3. Windows Services Patches is better not most-updated.

I downloaded and installed Oracle 9i. I was very happy how easy the instal was. You would have to register with Oracle.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. But still i am not able to install .. This time i tried with the original set of 3 CD's (ver 9.2)as received from the Orcale Corp , not with the downloaded version.

The set up takes me to the panel on which i can choose the enterprise edition , Personal or the custom version and i choose one it shows me a bar in which it starts installing the components till 31% , and then it hangs and doesn't do any thing some times it comes out of the set up itself.

i have no clue on the pottential problem.

Can you try copying the CDs onto your C:\ drive (into three folders called disk1, disk2 and disk3), then try running the setup from the disk1 folder.

Directions
1. Before downloading, please review the product certification information for this product.
2. Also see the Quick Start Guide reference list (Metalink).
3. Verify that the filesizes listed on this page match the downloaded files on your local disk.
4. Create directories Disk1, Disk2 and Disk3.
5. cd to Disk1 and unzip the 92010NT_Disk1.zip here.
6. repeat the above step for Disk2 and Disk3.
7. After unzipping all the 3 disks in their respective directories, cd to Disk1 and run setup.exe to start the installer.

Not sure if it applies to cd's but it makes sense that it would given the size of each file and the capcity of a cd.

Also if you got the cd's from Oracle I believe you would have had to pay and would have access to the OTN Metalink. There shold be information there.

How about the Event Log?

I am able to install it now , i did a small changd instaed of the the deafult orahome directory name , a new dorectory name was given and it worked ... any way thanks for all the tips.
