When we try to open Any Document from the Server on our 2000 Workstations The Program will hang. This is usually just intermittent. If we press ctrl-alt-del and get the task manager it tells us the program is not responding. When we open files on the local hard drive there is no problems. We also have some 98 workstations but they never have this problem.

How are the Win2000 Workstations set up? What protocols are you using? Are you using WINS, DNS, DHCP? Please let us (Tek-tips members) know if the solutions we provide are helpful to you. Not only do they help you but they may help others.

1)You might want to check that NetBEUI is loaded as well as TCP/IP.
2)If Netware Services are being loaded make sure the Microsoft Client is set first in the "provider order" in Advanced Settings of Network & Dial-up Connections. Also that the NetBEUI is first in the binding order.
3)Make sure NICs are on the HCL and you have the most current drivers.
4)There is a timeout somewhere but can't remember where... maybe you'll have better luck & set it for more time.

Best of Luck... hope any one of these 4 suggestions helps in the slightest. Best Regards, -md

I added NetBEUI and placed it first in the binding order, We are not Using Netware services, The NICS are on the HCL. Windows will open the Program for the Document and then it sits for a long time until the user Ctrl-Alt-Del out of the program. The Server where the Doc's are is NT and only the 2000 machines have problems getting the files.
