Hello all. I moved a very small application from my desktop computer to my laptop to work on it while away from my desk. Now when I try to open some tables, I get the message "Not a Table". What's happening? This happens only in some tables.
Thank you in advance.

Addendum. I have to add that the app is working ok when ran from the compiled .exe

This is embarrassing, but I have to say it... I was trying to open a VFP9 app with VFP6. I have both installed because I have apps developed in both platforms. Sorry!!! Happy New Year!

It's not at all embarrassing to forget about versions. FYI: If you own VFP9, the eulla/license allows it to install to as many computers as you like, and you can install without updating VFP6 in parallel, the EULA binds the VFP9 license to a user, not a computer/CPU or such.

The VFP6 version explains the error of course. VFP6 doesn't recognize many VFP9 table features and therefore errors this way. But also a table corruption can lead to that error.

If it happens in VFP8 or later you can still open the table most of the times, if you SET TABLEVALIDATE TO 0.

Bye, Olaf.

A little tip to help you distinguish the versions:

In the startup programs for each of the versions, set _SCREEN.caption to "Visual FoxPro " + the version number (which you can get from VERSION(5)).

Going further, modify the fox icon slightly (perhaps a different colour), and set _SCREEN.Icon to the modified version. And set _SCREEN.BackColor to a distinct color for each version.

(This assumes, of course, that you have a startup program. If you haven't, maybe this tip will encourage you to create one.)

Mike
