I am running NW 7.2.2 JUMBO on Windows 2003 and ran in to an issue in the middle of backups last night. All groups started on time, and some groups partially finished, but in the end all failed.

The error I get for all clients in all failed groups is:

* [client]:/save: File index error: '[client]' is not a registered client
* [client]:/ save: Cannot open save session with [server]

From daemon.log:

04/02/08 07:39:03 nsrindexd: RPC error: RPC send operation failed. A network connection could not be established with the host.
04/02/08 07:39:03 nsrd: can't purge saveset from index [client] (`[client]' is not a registered client)

I started an nsrck -L7 and if I try running nsrinfo [client] after a completed recovery I get:

scanning client `[client]' for all savetimes from the backup namespace
nsrinfo: cannot start session with server [server]
nsrinfo: File index error: `[client]' is not a registered client

Any ideas? More info needed?

You must define the new client at the server to be able to run any backup.

If this is already done, i expect something to be wrong with the name resolution.

I restarted the NW services and all is well. All the clients have been configured for a min. of 6 months so they are not new to the server.

That's why i added the second statement ;-)

Congratulation that you solved the problem. However, a not responding daemon should result in other messages. So let's hope this was just a 'hickup'.
