Hi!!

Since a few month I'm having the same problem when I try to update the virus definition. I download the update file from symantec page and when I execute it, the pc get's very slow even sometimes it just dead!! Also if I open the folder that contains the file, the pc dead's. Anyone knows why is happening this?? or had the same problem??

Thanks

I presume you have enough disk space? Have you checked for TMP folders under c:\program files\common files\symantec shared\virusdefs ?

Other questions:

- What version of Symantec Antivirus are you using?
- Client or server?
- Have you used Symantec's online virus checker on to check your machine for viruses (You have not updated your virus definitions for a while, so a local scan is probably not going to find anything)
- Do you have any error message in the Windows application or system log that refer to Symantec Antivirus?
- Is there another anti-virus program installed or left behind? (McAfee, Trend, Kaspersky?)
- Are you running the Intelligent Updater from a network drive or did you copy it to a local drive? If it is a network drive, make sure you download it directly to the local drive.
- Have you tried downloading the XDB-file (also referred to as an Intelligent Updater, but just a different format) and copying it to c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\symantec\norton antivirus corporate edition\7.5) directory and then restarting the Symantec Antivirus service?
- Does the intelligent updater run when you disable Symantec antivirus real-time protection?

*** Replace norton antivirus corporate edition with symantec antivirus corporate edition if you are running SAV 9.x ***

Hi! thanks for the answer.

I had this problem in diferents pc's on a diferents lans, all the pc's has enought space, allready try from a network drive or the local drive. Also I try diferents versions, Norton OEM (it's old), 2002 and 2005; never installed another anti-virus on the pc's, and also I sure that isn't a virus problem because this happend on reformated pc too!!
When I disable real time proteccion, the intelligent updater run faster, so at this time when I want to update the virus definition I had to disable it, but the problem in the folders continues.
