Norton Antivirus and Windows 1

It appears something has gone wrong within the framework of my Windows installation. Norton antivirus has come up with error code 3002,1530 (internal error) which according to their support website might be resolved by re-installing my Internet Explorer.

I have followed their suggestions but to no avail.

In addition, my Windows and IE6 installations do appear flawed - when I try to create a new user account, I get an empty window, when I try to search for files or folders, I only get the dog - no search boxes or options, and when I try to use Internet Explorer, many pages appear to be prohibited from view - with the page title changing to "Browser Check" - one such page is the Microsoft Windows Updates page itself - which I now cannot access.

I have tried reinstalling IE6 - but perhaps I haven't done it successfully - are there any methodologies I could follow to resolve this.

The problem is becoming cleaer, but deeper I fear.

It appears that potentially my IE6 SP2 installation is the basis of my problems. I cannot in fact re-install IE6 or IE6 SP1, as when I try to do so, I get a notification of a "pending installation that requires my system to reboot. Needless to say I have rebooted several times without success.

I made some progress in that when I managed to "remove" my IE6 installation using the Windows components dialogue box, Norton antivirus appeared to load to a far greater extent than I had previously achieved. This leads me to believe that my problem is more related to IE6 SP2, or the SP2 installation itself.

Is there therefore any means of re-installing that? (Bear in mind I cannot see the Windows Update screen at all due to this problem, so I cannot use Windows Update to achieve anything...)

Thanks
