Using WinXP. Have been using NAV 2002 for 6 mths no probs. Other day after booting up NAV icon was missing from systray and Auto-Protect apparently disabled.

Uninstalled and reinstalled - worked OK. Used LiveUpdate, rebooted and same problem again!

When I go to Close Program box it doesn't list NAV under Applications but shows NAVAPSVC.exe under Processes.
Can't even start Auto-Protect from Start/Programs to access options (which I saw suggested on another thread).

Have checked for viruses including Klez but nothing found.

Am running out of ideas and can't find any help in other threads. Any input appreciated!

Open your Norton Antivirus and on the options screen under autoprotect, see if the boxes are checked to start with windows and show icon in task bar. It sounds like auto protect is running but the icon isn't set to display in the taskbar.

Tnx for the input. Much appreciated.

However, I can't even get Norton Antivirus to open properly let alone select an option! When I try to run it, nothing appears to happen - it still shows NAVAPSVC.exe under Processes in the Close Program box tho nothing seems to be running under Applications. Basically it seems to be running in the background somewhere but it is not accessible by any means I have tried.

I have been working with computers for 20 odd yrs and this one has me stumped. A search of the knowledge base at Symantec produces no positive result and after trying all their suggestions I eventually get the advice to 'Upgrade to 2003 to solve all your LiveUpdate issues'! Surely there is a cheaper alternative!! Any other ideas would be appreciated.

This is just sympathy, sorry.
I had the same problem with XP and after working on it for weeks decided not to use Norton. I use PCCillin and Zone Alarm Pro on my XP PC. Of course, I do miss the other apps.

I think Norton would prefer to sell you an upgrade than support you. Too bad. Apparantly, a lot of people do use Systemworks 2002 on XP with no problems.

Hope you figure it out.

There are some virus' that disable virus scans. Try a free online virus scan. Housecalls; RAV or Bit defender

Tnx shyber1 for the condolences. Am seriously considering the change-over option. Am totally unimpressed with norton's support. I just can't believe that I can't find a solution to a problem that so many other people have also had (from what I've read in posts all over the place).

Tnx too crow053. Have already virus checked it and double checked using PC-Cillin's Housecall. Still no joy.

I'm having this same problem, which pisses me off because I recently paid for a subscription renewal for my NAV and there is NO support from Symantec unless you want to pay $30. Unbelievable.

Anyone seen or heard of any solution?

Hi Terminader

I found a solution. After failing to get any helpful support with this prob, and reading reviews and articles on antivirus software, I bought PC-Cillin 2003! Like it heaps better than NAV. Support seems OK, initial cost wasn't much more than the NAV upgrade (which was Norton's helpful piece of advice) and in the long run the upgrades are a lot cheaper!

Do yourself a favour...!
