Norton Active Watch Causing CPU Usage Spikes

Whenever NAV Active Watch is enabled, I often get CPU usage spikes every 4-5 seconds. This results in momentary cursor lockups at the same interval.

The CPU usage spikes sometime begin shortly after bootup; sometimes it takes a bit of surfing or working in Windows Explorer. Once the spikes begin, they continue until the machine is shut down.

This occurs on a new homebuilt machine, running Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 3). I'm running the latest version of NAV 2003.

I'm also running ZoneAlarm Pro and Pest Patrol, but deactivating or uninstalling them has had no effect on the above.

Any ideas?
