I have a general question on the Northwind database example.
If you click on the Categories button off of the Switchboard, the Categories table opens.

When I look at this form in design view there is a subform. I want to know how they get the subform to update with the correct table, when a category name is changed in the main form. There are no events on either form that I can see. Does it jsut occur due to the table relationships, or is it a bound/unbound thing? Thanks for the help.

Hi!

The subform control on the main form has a couple of properties which handles this. They are, I think, Link Master Fields and Link Child Fields.

Hi, obheron,

Yes, it is based on relationships. If you look at the subform control's property sheet, you'll see entries in the "Link Child Fields" and "Link Master Fields" fields. That's how the form knows how to coordinate the data between the main form and subform.

Ok, great. Hope I can figure this out, should help me a great deal.

Hi!

I should have added that, in the Link Master Fields you put the field(s) from the main form's control source that should match the field(s) from the subform. Naturally, you put the matching field(s) from the subform in the Link Child Fields box.
