I just bought 10 Notel WLAN 2220 APS from ebay and they work perfectly power up, give me a connection to my lan...The problem is that I have no idea what the ip addresses of the APS are so I cannot access the web interface. What's even worse is that when I try the console port I don't get anything. What kind of cable should I be using? Right now I am trying a belkin serial cable male to female. I am using hyperterminal and other newly downloaded software but cannot get anything. Can someone please inform me step by step how I can do this? Also, I noticed there is a reset button on the back but there is no documentation whatsoever to its use. If the password was changed for the serial connection how can I reset this thing? Laastly, is there a way I can get the ip simply from the ssid or any computer connected to it? I know these are alot of questions and I really appreciate your support, all I need to do is get into my settings.
Thanks!!

Hi gorlinj

Default IP addresses for 2220's are 192.168.168.10, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.168.254 so stick yourself on 192.168.168.1 or similar.

I had REAL trouble getting the console to work, must have been 6 cables before I got one to work! The console interface is very easy to operate though. Settings are 9600, 8, N, 1, no flow control.

Whether you get in thru the web management or console, standard username is nortel, with no password.

Make sure you upgrade the firmware ASAP, there are a few bugs in the original (like no way of turning off SSID broadcasting).

I have no documentation on the reset button, but I would try the 'power on with it held in' approach.

Thanks for responding. What do u mean I should stick myself on 192.168.168.1? Also, I realize that is the default ip but it doesn't work because I think it was changed. Any way of resetting it that you know of? Im just curious if you know why your cables never worked and what cable did work in the end. Is it possible the console could've been disabled?
Thanks

I mean put yourself on 192.168.168.1 because that is in the same range as the access point - you can't talk to it while it is in a different range unless you want to start making changes to your router etc. Once you have the management prog running you can change the ip address to anything you want, including putting it in your current range.

I don't know of any way of disabling the console, but the cable issue was what gave the the most problems. I was using a load of cables, all of which needed gender changers to fit each end. None of those worked, but once I had a proper serial cable with the correct ends and no changers, it worked fine. May be worth a new cable purchase for the sake of a few quid / dollars (not sure where you are!)

Cheers

Mike

Cable is the standard Nortel console cable.
Use Hyperterm Private Edition(much easier).
