I have a Nortel Voip system running on Nortel hardware. I also have a Cisco data network that uses 3524 switches with POE feeding into Cisco 6509's. The two networks can talk to each other via a Nortel 1612 router.

Is it possible to plug the Nortel i2002 or i2004 phones (currently with static IPs) into a Ciscso 3524 port switch and get them to work?

I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me to documentation or an explanation of what I need to do to get this to work.

Thx,Fred

If the phones are phase 2 sets (NTDU92), they'll work on any vendors 802.3af POE switch. If they are phase 1, you'll need a POE splitter to make them work.

biv343 is right.
It doesn't matter which switch the Nortel Ip set is conneted to. Just take care about the 802.3af norm.
Already did with Nortel, Cisco, Extreme network, 3com switches without any problems...

I have a i2004 (NTDU92) phone that I can plug into a port on the Cisco 3524 (802.3af) switch.

Another rookie question, can I vlan that Cisco port and somehow have it automagically hook up with the vlan of the same number on the Nortel side across the Nortel 1612 router?

Nortel Product Bulletin P-2004-0129 titled "Configuring Cisco Quality of Service parameters to support Nortel Network Voice over IP solutions"

There may be a newer version of this, but if you can access the IOS on the Cisco boxes, this should fix you up right.

you can share vlans between those two if properties are correct, but it's best to follow that link and brush up on it since your network is unique to your site

Thanks everybody for your help.

I'm still having trouble finding the bulletin (yes, I'm logged in). I filled out the 'needs help' form but Nortel can't seem to provide a working link to the bulletin. Advanced Search queries don't get me what I need either.

I am told by my in-house phone person that there is an entire class devoted to getting results with the Nortel search engine. :)

Our vendor is searching for it as well.

Thanks!
