I have a Win2K laptop that won't allow the USB headset to work. I keep getting prompted for the location of the USBAUDIO.sys file which doesn't exist on the system anywhere. I have a user who had this happen on XP as well, but it works fine on my XP machine.

might find a win2k forum, this one is for pbx's..large to very large meridian switching.. nothing to do with pc's or mice.. i would plug the mouse in and do a re-image.. but a pro might know a better fix

I am referring to the USB headset that Nortel ships with the I2050 softphone or at least used to. Given the relation of the I2050 is why I posted it to this forum instead of a PC forum

Seems like your driver may be corrupt. The USB headset use a standard windows driver for HID devices. So JohnPoole may be right. Maybe the win2k forum can help you find and reinstall the driver. Microsoft has a page on the internet(I don't know where) that containes all the drivers included in windows. Make a search there and maybe you'll find something that helps.

thanks for the correction, being at a hospital, i don't get to play with the newer ip stuff. we don't get to play until 3 or 4 years after we train.. sorry for the bogus post.. like 2007 posted, have you reloaded the driver. if that is the same usb mouse they ship with new pilots, it works on my desktop, running 2000 pro. maybe grab the driver from that box

What you can do is go to a 2000 machine where the USB audio kit works. Do a search for the usbaudio.sys file. Copy it from there and paste it in exactly the same location as on the working machine. I used to be a desktop technician so working with windows has taught me quite a bit....seeing you always have problems with it.....

I was able to locate an older PC with Win2K still installed. The headset worked fine on it so I copied the driver over and all is good now.

Good - thats the only nice thing about windows dll and driver files - You can copy them from different locations.

Good stuff

Does anyone know the Nortel part number for the USB headset??

Is there another Makers headset that works with the i2050 softphone
