Nortel password recovery procedure for SR1001 router?

Solution Detail

How to recover a lost password

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem Description
If the router password is lost, how can it be recovered?
Problem Resolution

As indicated in solution 4099314, have the system setting configured at the time of provisioning as follows:

SR/configure > no system reset-to-factory
System will delete all user accounts the next time boot command 'X' is executed

By having this system setting in place, the password can be recovered without having the router set to factory-defaults and thus losing the entire configuration which would cause a longer-than-needed outage.

Assuming the system setting is configured indicated in solution 4099314, the password can be erased as follows:

1. Establish a console connection to the router and then reboot the router.

SR > reboot

WARNING : Configuration changes not yet saved!

FOLLOWING PARAMETERS WILL BE USED TO BOOT UP

BOARD : NCM
HOST IP ADDRESS: 10.10.1.10
BOOTING FROM : FLASH
BOOT FILE : /cf0/H1000.Z
BOOT MODE : FAST

REBOOT: ARE YOU SURE (Y/N) ? y

2. Press <Enter> until you come to the boot prompt and then issue the "X" command:

[VxWorks Boot]: X
Are you sure you want to reset username/password to factory default? y
moving zeros, length 52, to offset 0x18ae2 in NVRAM
Username/password have been reset

3. Reboot the router issuing the "@" command:

[VxWorks Boot]: @

4. When the router completes the boot cycle, the router prompts you to enter a new Root User name:

If the system setting is not configured as indicated in solution 4099314, the configuration is lost and router is set back to factory defaults when "X" is entered at the boot prompt.

If the "no system reset-to-factory" command was not issued in the initial configuration, is there any other way to recover, change, or default the password? The router I am trying to get into is set to "system reset-to-factory".
