Hi all,

Currently we have a T1 PRI connection between Cisco callmanager 4.1 and Nortel release 4 version3221.

We configured CDP so that we can dial each side directly by extention number and the call ID shows well between each other. But we have a problem to forward all nortel VM services to Cisco UNity.

For example, we configured Unity pilot number as 5000, while we forward cisco ip phone to 5000 and dial from the internal user of both sides, it goes into VM box correctly. But when we forward nortel extension to 5000, it goes into Unity greetings(Meanwhile, if we dial 5000 from the nortel extension, it goes the same)

Can anyone give me help to handle this needs?

check the calling and called party number that's coming into unity by using the call viewer tool via the unity tools depot. It sounds like the nortel switch is not retaining the original called party number when it forwards to 5000...or...the called party number is getting modified to 5000 so it is hitting the opening greeting in unity. I don't know nortel but can you modify with a translation pattern before sending it to the gateway?

thanks,steelcurtain86

because I don't familiar with unity. In this case, nortel can dial cisco dn directly and ring, why dial 5000 been given a different response?

not really following what you are asking, but i think you are asking me why does this not occur when I dial the number directly?

The answer is because you are forwarding from the original called party (nortel side) into the callmanager directory number of 5000 (Unity Hunt Pilot). I think the forwarding information is not being retained by Nortel or it is getting lost when it crosses the gateway.

Let us get more detail, in this case, 5000 is Unity VM pilot
If we
Dial 5000 using Cisco IP phone Hear “Please enter your PW follow by #” then we can enter the VM box

but when we
Dial 5000 using Nortel Phone (Via DSC config)
Hear “Hello, Cisco unity system, please dial the DN number...” sounds like greeting...

that's the problem I need to solve, I want to let Nortel use Unity also.

thanks!

Jeff,

I understand the problem. Did you do what I advised in my first post? If so...post the results? Do you have a (Nortel) subscriber configured in Unity that has a Nortel extension? It sounds like you don't or the calling party is being modified before it leaves the nortel switch or when entering the callmanager via the PRI.

I'll check it and keep you posted.

I think the issue is that the original CALLED number is not being forwarded to Unity. So if I call Nortel extension 4000 and it is CFWD to Unity port 5000, no original Called Number (4000) is being sent to Unity. So you get the Opening Greeting.
One way to use Unity with a Nortel and Cisco combination is using a PBX Link box that takes a Nortel SMDI link to forward this type of information to Unity. See this link. It is for Unity 3.0 but I think it will give idea.
I think there is another Cisco device that uses Digital stations from the Nortel and converts them to IP connections so you don't need the Dialogic cards. PIMG maybe?? The Cisco phones would access Unity in the usual way through IP. Dual integration

Thanks,

I found out that the nortel user were not added in the Unity user list, after I done this job, it worked. How fool I was!
