How can we program paging from site to site?

We have customers that want to access each others paging in different cities on Nortel PBXs by dialing across tie lines or dialing a DID forwared to the ACOD.

The trunks are at one site Paging trunks and at the other WATS. We have tried at both ends setting up phantom 500 to DCFW to the ACOD - no luck. ACD NCFW to ACOD - No luck. Changed TGARS and NCOS on ports - No luck.

We have not messed with the routes but if anyone knows how this remote paging is done it would solve a great paging mystery for sure.

Here is a really basic way of doing site to site paging, that I personally set up.

Install an I2050 at a remote location (maybe on an older unused computer or laptop) and attach a an audio cable from the computer to the paging amplifier. Set up that phone DN as a Voice Call or Auto Answer DN and you can begin speaking to that site when the phone answers.

Another Rube Goldberg way is to terminate the audio cables going to the speaker of an unused phone and instead connect those wires to a phono RCA cable and run them to an amplifier. Set up that DN as an Voice Call or Auto Answer and the phone will act as the paging output. You can use an M2000, M3900 or IP set.

Of course there are the professional options. A paging controller using Analog trunks from Bogen or Valcom. And there is a SIP paging option too, which would involve IP technology. Valcom offers a device that allows this.

If these are in fact tie lines then each site could dial the ACOD to the tie route and then the ACOD to the page route. Or you could put those entries in CDP as long as they don't conflict.

You can also get Station Interface to the paging (rather than Trunk Interface) but I like the other posters ideas better. Station Interfaces are just not as good quality. They just happen to work.
