All;
We have a Nortel Opt 11 at one of our sites. For some reason we can't access the PBX through the Console. What are the steps for accessing the unit with my Laptop? Do I need to download any special software. Please advise.
You need to look for a TTY cable that is typically a 25 way RS232 connector. You might also require a null modem adapter. You might be lucky in having one lying around inside the cabinet?.
Use any communication programs such as Hyper Terminal and it would be best to use a TTY cable marked up as "0". Inside the main Option 11 cabinet will be a processor card called SSC (11C systems) on the left next to the power unit. You should see some baud dip switches. Make sure that you have your communications software set to the same baud rate.
I personally use VT320 OR 220. You can try setting it to auto or even VT100 etc. Your TTY could also be set to 8 1 NONE, but it's a case of perhaps trying different combinations until you see something like..
