The i2002 sets are connected to Nortel 4500 switches and use PoE for power. The sets are not powering up but if the pcs are connected to the ip sets the pcs work fine. The ports on the 4500 switch are showing an invalid power device error.
Solution anyone??

You need to put this in the Nortel Networking

If it works in a PC but not a Data Switch, it would seem to me it is the Nortel 4500 switch and not the phone.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Sorry Acer if I wasn't clear enough, but the PC is connected to the phone's PC port and it works fine but the phone does not boot up. The phone switching capability works fine but the phone itself does not power up.

I've never heard of that situation... I would check to quick things; 1) test your cabling to make sure that all 8 wires are present and you are within 100 meters distance 2) make sure you haven't connected the cables to the wrong ports on the i2002, there is one for PC and one for the network.

If the problem isn't with the ERS 4500 I would be very suspicious of the cabling.

Good Luck!

What happens when you take the phones to the switch and plug them directly in with a known good patch cable? Are there ports with working ports you can borrow to see if the issue is with the phone, the cabling or the POE switch?

Cabling is suspected, however I have had someone do this exact test on the switch port and got mixed results ie...one worked fine and another did not work using the same cable and port. I will be visiting the site and will give feedback from this test.....THANKS thus far

Problem sorted......what it was is the ports on the 4550 was set to deliver 6W of power and for some reason this was not enough for the intial burst of power needed to power some of the phones. Once that was recognised the ports were set to deliver 8W and all is fine now.

Thanks
