I just changed the battery on two Flash 2.0 systems. Now neither one of them has any feature codes anymore. I just get NONE REGISTERED when I do an XFTEST, and of course the systems won't come up. I had never seen this before, don't know what to do. I have searched TEK-TIPS, but I don't find any previous posts. Also, if I have a Flash vm lite and want to upgrade it to a regular 2.0 Flash, do I need keycode for that?
Help!

I did another search and found some info. I did not give enough details on my situation. I have tried to install two Flash 2.0 systems, both show NONE REGISTERED. I have tried installing both systems on a CICS 7.1 and a MICS 6.1. No luck. I definitely had the Flashes powered up when I was doing my XFTEST. It sounds like that is not correct? All Fcodes have been removed. Does this automatically happen when you change the batteries?

I tried that many times. I was under the impression that you only use this if the software is below 2.0. But I did try it to no avail.

F903 is for 1.9 and up.

Its called a Capacitor, not a Battery
Did you solder the correct type? and properly?

Have you given it 10 minutes to boot up before trying any features?
Have you gone into Maintenance to see if the KSU see's the Flashtalk?

The KSU will not display the codes until it sees the Flashtalk.

Upgrade Voice Mail Lite:
Option 1
Do a REINSTALL
When states RESETTING pull the power cord
Install 1.7 software or lower and power up and initialize it.
Then power down and install newer software such as 2.0

Option 2
Open up the Flash cabinet and short out the capacitor with a 100 ohm resistor

Also XFTEST is to remove codes in case needed
F9*1 is to view what codes are there.

good question Curlycord, did I install the correct part?? I believe so. Yes I soldered it. It is the exact same one I use in the CICS and the old software cartridges in the 616 software. I thought this was the battery that holds the memory. The black round one with the 2 prongs to solder.
Yes, I waited more than 30 minutes multiple times.
NO the KSU does NOT see the Flash and yes, I did test the stations going into the system with phones and they are working.
Somehow I did not know about the 9*1, I will check that when I get equipment plugged in here in my lab today.
1.9 and up for F903, ok.
It is just in all of the years I have installed these, I have never seen NONE REGISTERED.

Thanks for the info on the upgrade, I will see if I have some older s.w. in my stash.
I will let you know. I have to get this damn thing up!!!

According to refurbsupplies there seems to be 3 caps for 6X16

But this one is the only one that mentions Flash but not 616:

So it seems possible you might have the wrong battery according to them.

I wish that image had the numbers on the other side also. Looking at the ones I have, it shows the 5.5V, but only 1.0F. The one you show has 1.5F It also has 613 on the other side printed in gold. Cannot tell by this photo.
I am working on this now and nothing that has been suggested is working. The KSU does see the STK in Maintenance.

you have properly diagnosed the problem Curlycord!! Thanks so much!! I have the wrong capacitor!
Problem solved.

Now I am wondering....I just used these capacitors for the 616 in a MICS and a CICS refurb last month. They both seem to be working fine so far. Do you foresee issues with this in the future?

I am assuming the problem is solved, I won't know until I replace those capacitors.

In my experience a memory cap will not cause this problem unless the polarity is reversed. 1.0F is plenty robust to preserve programming. I think the problem lies elsewhere. Connect to the serial port with Hyperterminal and watch the bootup sequence. That should give you a clue as to what's going wrong.

So if the polarity is reversed you think it would cause the NONE REGISTERED problem??

Are you sure your software is good?

Also I would replace your connector that you're using to connect the flash.

Check this thread (connector worked fine for a phone but not for the flash)

As far as your flash lite upgrade .. I've seen them on eBay for about $50

2 different flashes, 2 different power supplies, 2 different line cords, 2 different software cards. Only commonality was the change of capacitors.

Did you reverse the polarity yet?

I checked and there is clearly a + on the circuit board. The - is clearly on the opposite side. On both systems.
