I have 2 Nortel systems I am tring to connect. Both are just blinking where the inservice light is suppose to be steady. I try dialing the other system and it says no lines avaliable. Any ideas?

You're using 4 wires, right? 1,2 to 4,5 and 4,5 to 1,2.
Timing could be your issue, too. Only one system should be providing clock, the other should be set to Primary.

Are these systems at the same location, or are you using a PtP T1?

Yes, I am using 4 wires. If one is primary, what should the other be? I set the card as PRI

And yes, the systems are at the same location 10 feet away.

The card will blink when it down loads the firmware to the card. It sounds as if it is not loading.
Are all the lights blinking?

Its been blinking for a week, and just the in service light is blinking.

if you are just tying both systems together.
then both cards should be set to T-1 with E&M Trunking
using a cross over cable
This is from 6.1 docs it is the same as 4.0 on up

Dialing plan using E&M lines
By properly planning and programming routing tables and
destination codes, an installer can create a dialing plan where
E&M lines between Norstar systems are available to other
systems in the network
The following figure and programming chart shows how to
configure a transparent dialing plan for a network of three
Norstars over E&M lines.
• Each system must be running the same version of
MICS 6.1 or MICS-XC 6.1 software.
• Each system must be equipped with target lines and a
Trunk Module with an E&M/DISA Trunk cartridge or an
ICS with a DTI with at least one E&M line.

Networking with shared line pools
If the Norstar systems are close to each other geographically,
you can conserve resources by not duplicating access. For

it would be better to get the documentation

When you say get the documentation, do you mean the programing manual? I have those. And does it matter they are both 7.1 XC software?

then go to the networking section it's pretty self explanatory

Do you have a Service or Combo card in each system? If so then if you follow what clid was saying above you should be ok. The only way you'll be able to do PRI is if you have the MCDN code for the systems.

I have a combo card and the MCDN code for the systems. One system came up with solid green light on in service LED, and a steady yellow on the Alarm receive LED. The second system doesnt show a card when I go into the Maintenance ,
Module status. But it has a card in it and is blinking the inservice light. Any ideas?

I have it in slot 1 on the system and it has a green light. Is this a fluke or do I need to change that too?
