I'm having an issue when Nat transversal is turned on on the Connectivity Switch which is required for vista cleints. According to my secuirty comapny who mangaes the VPN I have to make sure UDP 10001 is open outbound. I called Verizon and they walked me through this by using port forwarding on the Actiontec router they provided. After doing this i was still unable to connect. I called Verizon who had to talk with Actiontec and they were able to determine these ports were open. I have a linksys sitting behind the actiontec router due to the poor signal strength of the actiontec router. I even tried plugging directly into the actiontec router. same result. It fials when rtreiving banner text. I have norton Antivirus runningon the Windows XP box as well but that shouln't interfere. I even shutdown the windows personal firewall also. Any helpful suggestion would be most appreciated so i can get this resolved and make everyone happy. Right know we have to have the nat transversal turned off otherwise XP clients can't connect. I have had some users able to connect with htis option turned on but I cannot determine their setup at home.

If you're going through a NAT, you'll need NAT Traversal. I wouldn't recommend going through two NATs though. Windows Firewall can cause you problems with the Contivity client. Also, while Norton anti virus typically does not interfere, norton's security apps sometimes will.

I would recommend turning on NAT Traversal, plugging into the first router (actiontec), turning off the firewall, and even disabling Norton. If that works, start working backward turning on one thing at a time until you determine the cause.

I never recommend people go through two NAT routers. I hear you on the signal weakness of the VZ Routers - but there are other ways around that.

What do you mena turn on Nat transversal? Are you talking about turning it on the connectivity switch?

what other options do i have with verizon other than using the actiontec router or puting a router behind the actiontec?
