Hello,

Just had a quick question about the Nortel Companion series of cordless phones. Are these meant to be used with the Meridian 1 series or are they compatible with any standard Norstar system, such as an M8x24? There isn't a lot of information regarding compatibility and I was under the impression it was meant for an older/larger system.

Thanks!

This is all moot now since Companion is discontinued and any type of keycodes are unavailable, but here's some info.

There were three different models of Companion and they all used the same phones, C3050 or C3060.

Companion C200 was an adjunct unit that looked like a Norstar 0x32, but used a special s/w cartridge. It allowed connection of analog ports/lines. There was a one for one relationship between the lines and the handsets. I installed serveral of these on Option 11 systems with limited card capacity.

Meridian Companion consisted of cards added to an IPE shelf. Typically used on large Option systems.

Norstar Companion required XC software with base stations connected to the last two availalbe expansion ports.

HTH!

I found this old guide of mine from many moons ago for the Companion 200 system

HOW TO TEST FOR SIGNAL STRENGTH FROM C3020 HANDSET PORTABLES

TO TEST FOR R.S.S.I. (RECEIVED SIGNAL STRENGTH INDICATOR)

KEY *898 ON HANDSET PORTABLE AND THE DISPLPY SHOULD SHOW
SOMETHING LIKE "1133 -56". THIS MEANS THAT THE BASESTATION
PORT 1133 FROM WHICH THE HANDSET IS WORKING OFF HAS A DECIBEL
READING OF "-56" DB. THIS RERDING WILL BE CHANGING ALL THE
TIME DEPENDING ON WHAT AREA YOU PRE USING THE PORTAPBLE FROM.

TO TEST FOR DIRECTED R.S.S.I. (I.E FROM ONE BASESTATION ONLY)

KEY *899 ON HANDSET PORTABLE FOLLOWED BY THE BASESTATION
PORT NUMBER I.E 1132. THE HANDSET DISPLAY WILL LIST THE SAME
INFORMATION AS ABOVE BUT IT WILL NOT CHANGE OVER TO ANOTHER
CELL OR BASESTATION AS THE PORTABLE IS MOVED ABOUT.

NOTE!
ON A SINGLE CELL SITE
NO MORE THAN SIX HANDSET PORTABLES CAN BE ON LINE APPEARANCE.

ON A MULTIPLE CELL SITE
