I was looking at the Nortel site and thought about taking their certification courses. I looked at MICS 7.1 and it costs about 1,600.00.

I have worked on MICS for several years. Is there any advantage to taking this or other Nortel courses or for that matter Avaya, Siemens, etc. or other manufactures certification courses?

What is your experience in certification of various products?
Will it give me an advantage?

Thanks!

Here Here RikRodgers, the masters of the universe don't get it, us shleps are the ones moving their stuff. They should be kissing our a***s. Luckily not much has changed since 7.1 so I can still support any questions. I do have a back door to Nortel but that is for emergencies only. If they set up a call center like they had in the 1990's they would move more product. Everybody I talk to hates BCM, mainly becausse of support. There are two guys left in Canada that have a clue on that piece of s**t. "Spread the knowledge Nortel" We will all make some money if you lighten up!

If the BCM is no good then do you still stick with the older MICS etc?

The BCM is good most of the time, the problem is trying to get support on it if you need it.

BTW how are new sales and service work going during this slow down in the economy?

That is the problem with Nortel, NEC, Toshiba and Avaya/Lucent/At&t/whatever your name is this week. Panasinic will still give tech support for a price and there are still companies that will give TS for the above, even sells the equipment to us little guys. But even after I have been officially certified as tech if the company fails to meet the producers guidlines then I nolonger can service my customers?! I understand 'losing' credentials after leaving a company (they went belly up) but even before they actually folded we were no longer able to support.
I still work on the systems though, keep the customers happy.

Hey ladies and gents...
Looking for more knowledge hands on training on the bcm50 etc...i've popped around 3 of them in...but would like to get a clear overview of all its options...im in the gta...you may email me @ tele_networx@yahoo.ca
Appreciate your feedback..

Some equipment resellers provide tech support like Black Box Resale. They only sell equipment and operate independantly of BB Network Services. They also provide support for the BCM up to the 1000E. There are others out there also like us.

A1 Teletronics' Nortel® Product Training (see banner above)

Our classes are: the MICS & CallPilot® class... The BCM & CallPilot® class.. and a Nortel® Sales class. The class schedule is as follows:

BCM/ CallPilot® - February 9 - 13, 2009 - Dallas, Texas
BCM/ CallPilot® - February 16 - 20, 2009 - Dallas, Texas
BCM/ CallPilot® - March 23- 27, 2009 -Munster,Indiana (30 miles south of downtown Chicago)
BCM/ CallPilot® - April 13 - 17, 2009 - St. Pete, Florida
BCM/ CallPilot® - April 27 - May 1, 2009 - Seattle, Washington

All of our classes have been recognized by BICSI for Continuing Education Credits. We are very hands on. The participants will actually get up and put their hands on the equipment during configuration exercises. We will test out programming that is discussed. Participants will install, program and test a point to point (VoIP/ T-1) connection before leaving. The class is very practical and real world. We concentrate on what your techs will be seeing in the field.

We do keep our classes very small (6 techs or less here) so that everyone has individual attention and time working on the equipment.

BUT if you have 5 or more technicians that need training, it may be possible for us to come to your site to conduct the training. We will discount the price of the class to cover the instructor's traveling expenses so that will not be an additional cost to you.

Please let us know if you have any questions or if you'd like us to do a custom quote to come to your site.
Take Care,
