Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes... The company wants to program their Nortel BCM 450 system to forward incoming calls to an answering service after hours. Is there a way to do this? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This depends on how the calls come into the system.
Auto attendant.
Hunt groups.
Receptionist only.

They all have different ways of answering and how to forward off to another number.

You may have to set up night service,,feature 871. Night.ok
Direct the line to the reception phone.
Forward the reception feature4 9 then number

I will assume you know how to programme the system

And too add if you have regular copper lines(you didn't mention type) you can use the forward feature from your carrier.

i.e.
Press line 1, press *72 (and get a brief stuttered dial tone (if you get a fast busy then you dont have the feature), enter phone number.
To cancel press line 1 then *73

Thanks for your suggestions. External calls made after-hours to the main company phone number (the switchboard phone) are answered by the auto attendant. We want to have those calls forwarded to the external number (the answering service) and use a schedule to make it automatic. Is there a way to do this?

We found the post below elsewhere on this site, but we're not sure how to actually do the steps suggested at the end:

We recently replaced our old Meridian Norstar system and VXM 100 voicemail with a new Nortel BCM 450 and CallPilot and I have a question with forwarding.

All inbound calls are directed to DID number 346 here. On our old system, at 4pm each day, all calls coming into 346 were automatically programmed (somehow) to forward to extension 386 until 7am the next morning, then it would remove the forward.

On the new BCM 450 however, I am unable to figure out how to 'program' this to happen automatically on a schedule. Our temporary solution is for the secretary to ue Feature 4 and manually forward the number before she leaves and then manually remove the forward when she returns at 7am. It works, but is not very effecient.

I am sure this is an easy solution that I am somehow over looking.

Thanks in advance for any help.

U need to setup a ring group. Setup ring group 2. Assign DN 386 to it. Assign whatever lines normally ring 346 to ring group 2. Make 346 the control set for ring group 2. Make the ring service auto.
