I am researching information on the Nortel BCM 2.5 System (ie General Description, Installation and Programming Documentation) Can any one help me locate this?
Thanx
Zeg

I have this release on our old BCM1000 that we got just over 2 years ago.

3U RM unit, 3 media bays

Do you have the BCM 2.5?? If you have the BCM 2.5, all the doc's are on the BCM.

Zeg Do you have a BCM 2.5???? if not why would you want one???

Do you need some tech help on a 2.5?
The only reasons to use a 2.5 is money or to upgrade to 3.6 or 3.7. This forum has completely covered that topic if you need to research a how to. Nortel says they will not support the upgrade to 4.0, although it will probably work with extra memory and PEC cards.

what is the cost of upgrading a BCM1000 with 2.5 to 3.7??

It will depend on a few things.

What size of hard drive?
What version of MSC card.
How much ram is in the BCM?

These are the hardware issues before you get the software upgrades. You will need to upgrade to 3.6 before you can upgrade to 3.7. This will depend on the info above.

First you need to know if you have a version 1.1A or higher MSC card.
If you don't have that, you can't upgrade.
A new MSC card will probably be $1600.00 or more, with no PEC cards.
The HD needs to be 20 gig.
You should have two PEC three cards, the 1000 did not come with PEC threes.
Double the memory.

Unless you have an image to burn on your new HD and the ability to do the work it will probably be just as cost effective to purchase a base system and have an authorized vendor migrate the key codes.

There are a large number of posts on Tek-Tips covering this topic.

I have done it but I have access to spare parts, a lab, images, etc.

Good Luck

I am not sure about the 1A, my understanding is that the card must be a 1.1A.

Other than that it looks like you are good to go. The system probably justifys replacing the MSC card if necessary. Some questions first, is this an in service system, and do you have access to technical backup in case of failure?

I would probably double the main memory as that can be done for small change.

I have a 1A card and as soon as I can get a 3.7 CD I will burn the image and see if the system runs.
