Hi all,

I have a bs47048t, with numerous port based vlans configured on it.

I deleted a port based vpn that had 4 members, lets call it vlan1, and created a mac based vlan, lets call it vlan2, which included the macs of all the devices that were on the previous vlan.

after applying the setup and refreshing, my brand new vlan doesn't appear to have any active members. I can't pass any traffic into that new vlan(2).

Anyone have any Idea where I may be going wrong or what I could check?

Thanks in advance :)

Is the vlan enabled?
Also have you assigned all ports to the MAC vlan?

to communicate with devices on the vlan you will need to tag the vlan number on a trunk which goes to your L£ device.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your quick response. I would say yes the vlan is enabled, only because I often create port based vlans in the same manner and they appaer take effect as soon as the switch sees a frame bound for one of it's memebers, maybe it's different with MAC based?

as for ports, I didn't assign any ports; I thought the reason for MAC based membership was the flexibility to plug a device into any port and have the switch sort out where the traffic goes, again, I'm no pro, so I could be horribly wrong and probably am on that point.

All of the traffic is being initiated on the same switch, so I am not tagging anything on the trunk the way I would if I needed to carry that traffic to another switch. Is that ok for this setup?

You can check the status of the vlan from the vlan configuration screen in the menu section.

I believe you have to define which ports are potential members of the vlan just as you would on the 8600. So try adding all ports from the same menu screen.

If you just want the devices to talk to each other then this setup should work. If you want them to talk off vlan then a L£ device will be required.
