I have been working with Bay/Nortel equipment for almost 3 years. The equipment (hardware is ok) but the support is so-so. Optivity is bad.
I went to the new 9x class 18 months ago. Optivity has never worked correctly.
I started speaking with a guy the last week about why I can get some backplane graphs on my 5000 chassis and not other back planes. Then I mentioned auto-discovery NOT working ever and all the mess I went thru with support over it.
So...nice enough guy...thinks he knows his stuff. Tells me about a patch (18 months later right!?) Ok so I load the patch and of course the patch for the SNMP vulnerabiltiy.
Guess what? Now I can't even install the commuity strings under admin. It won't let me. Besides that before I get there it puts up a huge banner saying that another program is managing my strings.
So he says he is going to try it in the lab. Guess what? HE GETS THE SAME DARN RESULTS! GO FIGURE! So they have pulled the patch for the SNMP.
Great so I uninstall (remove..ha) the SNMP patch leavning the auto discovery patch in per his instructions. It did the same darn thing it always did. NOTHING! It will not auto discover.
I don't know what the heck they are doing down there but I am not buying the stock anytime soon!
My Cisco stuff works extremely well and the support is 100% great!
