Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me, in an 8010 chassis we have 2 x CPU cards, slot 5 and 6, if I look at the status of the cards I see the following:
Card Info :

Slot# FrontType FrontHw Oper Admin BackType BackHw
Version Status Status Version
2 16x1000BaseT-E 05 up up BFM8 05
3 16x1000BaseT-E 05 up up BFM8 05
4 16x1000BaseT-E 05 up up BFM8 05
5 CPU 10 up up SFM 05
6 CPU 10 dormant up SFM 05
7 32x100BaseTX-E 05 up up BFM6 07
8 16x1000BaseT-E 05 up up BFM8 05
9 16x1000BaseT-E 05 up up BFM8 05

The 'dormant' status concerns me, looking at the LEDs for card 6 they are all on, since I'm not that familiar with these switches, can anyone help, is this a problem, I would assume yes ?
I've looked at the logs but there is no info from the last time the switch was rebooted.
Thanks in advance for any help.

That is normal operation. With dual CPU's the cards work in active/standby. So one will be dormant.

This will change if you are running them in HA mode.

Hi, thanks for the info, but surely the status should say 'standby' and not 'dormant'
I can't telnet from the active to the dormant card (peer telnet), I also can't copy a file to the 'dormant' card's pcmcia, and surely all LEDs on, including switch and cpu utilisation is not normal.

Dormant is standby, it's just the way the switch reports the card.

You will see switch utilization as the backplane shares both CPU cards switch fabric.

Try telneting to 127.0.0.6, on some versions of software the peer command doesn't work.

Can you console onto the card? If not try re-seating it. This shouldn't affect user traffic.

Also from console check that telnet and ftp services are enabled.

Hi, console access to the card doesn't work either, whereas to the active cpu it's ok, I'm going to re-seat the card out of hours and see if it comes up correctly.
