Can I use a Nortel 1140E SIP firmware 3.2 for free with basic features on a 3rd party SIP provider? I am currently using 2.2, but was using 3.2 until I discovered that my license was going to expire in 20 days and it locked me out after 20 days...so I backloaded the 2.2 back into the phone.

According to Avaya's website, I should be able to use the 3.2 software beyond the 20 days for basic calling features, but no such luck.

Anyone have a workaround or advice?

I believe you can only use it without purchasing a license or token, call it what you want, if you are connecting to a Nortel/Avaya call server. Anything other than that requires the license file.

Thank you Biv.

I actually have my BCM setup, but also have a SIP standalone set with 1 1140E independent of my BCM, because I do prefer some of the features of the SIP phone compared to the BCM, such as the multiple ring tones, simplified dialing plan and CLID information.
