does the voicemail manager software (v 3 or v 4) require that you be on the same subnet as the voicemail system that you are managing? i can connect fine when i'm in the office.. out of the office, i can ping the NAM, but can't connect with the NVM manager software...

... or, does it connect over a specific port? that port is probably being blocked on the firewall. but i can't find any port information anywhere...

thoughts?

so there's no way to use the software to connect to a remote install? (without installing it on a local machine, then using vnc or something to that local machine, then running NVM manager on that local machine)?

thanks

i'm asking.. you said in your first response that the ip and subnet neet to match the NAM and the net.. i assumed that you meant that the ip address for the NAM had to be on the same subnet as the ip address of the connecting NVM manager software computer.. which means that there would be no way to connect remotely, and that the connecting computer would have to be at the same physical location (unless a vpn was in play)...

is that what you meant?

Maybe I have the wrong idea, but with my customers I setup their router with port forwarding & a host name (dynamic DNS if they don't have a static IP)
i.e. Take the ip address of the CP (i normally set it to be .254 in whatever subnet... 192.168.1.254) and the port (web = 80) and forward it the public side of the router with an odd numbered port i.e. 20808

So = 192.168.1.1:80(LAN) = theirhostname.dnsalias.net:20808
You'll want to use a decent router (at least Netgear prosafe) otherwise you must like pulling your hair :)

You can use dyndns.org for the Dynamic DNS service (free,or cheap)

just my 2c

i'm not using CP with a web interface.. i'm using a NAM with the Norstar Voice Mail Manager application for windows...
